Experimental Works
This series was produced in the summer of 2009 in Edmonton Alberta These were experiments in the use of toner washes on copper plates etched with ferric chloride and a return to expressive drawing. Some works incorporate carborundum intaglio as well as surface relief rolls. The centre areas are printed with mezzotint off separate smaller plates registered to the internal space.
The works were inspired by a combination of a personal and then recent sense of loss of love, as well as the love and sadness I saw in the works of one of my favourite artists, Spanish/Catalan artist Antoni Tapies. Thinking about the relationship between material realities, and poetic fragmentation, Tapies was a true genius of European Art Povera. The presence of the real body and the magic of trompe loil effect were important here.
These work have yet to be shown and remain in my collection. They were never made into editions. I have the plates!
